About , - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!
The town of Avon is located in Hartford County, Connecticut nine miles northwest of the city of Hartford. Settled in 1645 and originally a part of the Farmington community, the area was sold in 1830 to the Puritans through a land charter granted by the Duke of York and incorporated as the city of Avon in the same year. Presently, Avon is home to a population of approximately 18,000 residents who enjoy the seasonal New England weather patterns that bring hot, humid summers and gorgeous cold, snowy winters to the area.
Rich in history and culture, Avon is home to a number of significant historical sites of interest, including the Living Museum, maintained and operated by the Avon Historical Society, that houses an impressive collection of historic photographs, memorabilia, artifacts, and maps, and the Derrin House, a 19th century farmhouse built on land belonging to the Darin family since 1766.
Residents and visitors to the city will find no shortage of things to do and see in the area. The Avon Parks and Recreation Department maintains and operates a number of parks, recreation sites, and facilities located throughout the city. Sites of note include the Huckleberry Hill Recreation Area, situated on 275-acres of wooded parkland that is popular with hikers, joggers, and cross-country skiers, and the Sycamore Hills Recreation Area, featuring tennis courts, basketball and sand volleyball courts, an outdoor swimming pool, and three sets of age-relevant play structures.
Golfers can hit the links at one of two area golf courses -- the challenging Blue Fox Run Golf Club or Farmington Woods Country Club, a medium-length course built to accommodate a variety of skill sets with four sets of tee boxes.
With an exceptionally low crime rate, excellent schools and municipal services, and easy access to arts, airports, and shopping, it is no wonder the city's more than 18,000 residents love to call Avon home!
